Goal Planner
Start from the goal instead of the investment: enter a target amount and a time frame to see the monthly SIP that would get you there at an assumed return.

What this calculator shows
Most calculators ask how much you will have; this one asks how much you need to save. Enter the goal in today's money, the years until you need it, an assumed return, and — if you want — an inflation rate. The calculator first grows the goal by inflation to find its future cost, then finds the monthly SIP that would reach that amount.
The formula, in plain words
Future goal = goal today × (1 + inflation)^years. Required monthly SIP = future goal ÷ {[((1 + monthly rate)^months − 1) ÷ monthly rate] × (1 + monthly rate)}, where the monthly rate is the annual return ÷ 12. It is the SIP formula run in reverse.
A worked example
Suppose a goal costs ₹25 lakh today and you need it in 10 years. With no inflation adjustment and an assumed 12% return, the calculator suggests a SIP of about ₹10,760 a month. Add 6% inflation and the goal becomes about ₹44.8 lakh in future rupees, which needs roughly ₹19,300 a month. The inflation setting often matters as much as the return assumption.
Assumptions and limits
- One steady return and one steady inflation rate; neither is predictable in reality.
- Instalments are paid at the start of each month and never missed.
- Taxes and costs are not deducted from the final amount.
Frequently asked questions
Should I adjust the goal for inflation?
For anything priced in future rupees — education, a house, retirement — usually yes. A goal that costs ₹25 lakh today will cost more in ten years. Leave inflation at 0 only if the amount you need is fixed.
What if the required SIP is more than I can afford?
You can extend the timeline, start smaller with a step-up SIP, or lower the target. A higher return assumption only changes the number on screen, not what markets will deliver.
Does this plan guarantee I'll reach the goal?
No. It shows what the inputs imply. Actual returns vary, so it is worth reviewing progress every year and adjusting.
