How to read this page
Market breadth counts how many of the 50 stocks are up versus down. The index can rise on the back of a few heavyweight stocks while most constituents fall; breadth tells you whether a move is broad or narrow.
The heatmap groups stocks by the sector NSE assigns them. Green tiles are up, red are down, and a darker shade means a bigger percentage move. Within each sector, tiles are ordered by the rupee value traded today, so the most actively traded names come first.
Most active (₹ value) multiplies volume by price. Value is a fairer measure of activity than share count, because a ₹200 stock naturally trades many more shares than a ₹10,000 one. Near 52-week high or low shows how far each price is from the top and bottom of its past year's range — useful context, though a stock near its high is not automatically expensive, nor one near its low cheap. That instinct to judge by a past price has a name: anchoring.
Global indices and rupee rates help explain Indian market moves: overnight moves in the US and Asia often shape how NIFTY opens, and a weaker rupee affects exporters, importers, and foreign investors differently. All prices are delayed and indicative — see data sources.
