How to use the screener
A screener narrows a long list down to the few rows that match a question you already have. Start with the question, not the filter: "which of these fell more than 2% today?", "what trades under ₹100?", "which held up best this week?". Set the matching filter, then sort by the column that answers it.
- Price (₹) compares everything in rupees. Commodities and crypto are quoted in US dollars, so we convert them at the current USD/INR rate and show both.
- Today is the change from the previous session's close. 5 days compares the latest price with the first price in the five-day window, which smooths out a single noisy session.
- Trend is the same five-day window drawn as a line, so you can see whether a move was steady or one sharp jump.
What a screen can't tell you
Price filters say nothing about a business's quality, debt, or valuation, and a stock that fell sharply today is not automatically a bargain. Lists of "top gainers" also invite the urge to chase whatever just moved — a pattern our investor psychology articles explain. Treat a screen as the start of your reading, then open the instrument's page and learn what drives it.
The screener covers the instruments listed on our Markets page, not every listed company. Low-priced ("penny") stocks can be thinly traded and highly volatile; a low share price alone doesn't make a stock cheap. Prices are delayed and indicative. This is a filtering tool, not a recommendation.
