Lumpsum Calculator
See how a single amount invested today could grow over a number of years at an assumed annual rate of return.

Year-by-year value
What this calculator shows
You invest once and leave the money untouched. Each year it grows by the rate you entered, and the next year's growth is calculated on the new, larger balance. The calculator shows the starting amount, the estimated value at the end, and how much of that is growth.
The formula, in plain words
Future value = amount invested × (1 + annual return)^years. A 12% return is written as 0.12, so ₹1 at 12% for one year becomes ₹1.12, and after two years ₹1.12 × 1.12 = ₹1.2544. The chart repeats this for every year in your time period.
A worked example
₹1,00,000 invested at an assumed 12% a year grows to about ₹1.76 lakh after 5 years, ₹3.11 lakh after 10 years, and ₹9.65 lakh after 20 years. The first five years add about ₹76,000; the last five add more than ₹4 lakh. Nothing about the investment changed — the later years simply compound on a much bigger base.
Assumptions and limits
- One steady return every year. Market-linked investments do not behave this way, and returns are not guaranteed.
- Taxes, costs, and inflation are not deducted, so the real (inflation-adjusted) value is lower.
- Annual compounding is used; products that compound more often will end slightly higher at the same rate.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a lumpsum and a SIP?
A lumpsum puts the whole amount to work on day one; a SIP spreads it out in instalments. At the same steady return the lumpsum ends higher because the money is invested longer, but it is also fully exposed to a fall right after you invest.
What return should I enter?
There is no correct number. Try several — for example a conservative, a middle, and an optimistic rate — and see how much the outcome depends on the assumption.
Can I use this for a fixed deposit?
Roughly, yes, but FDs often compound quarterly. The FD calculator handles the compounding frequency and gives a more precise maturity value.
